Technical Training Ponds
Access our large technical pond and our swim-by pond. Technical pond features points, channels, and shorelines. Water levels are consistent throughout the year. Ponds are ideal for transition and advanced dogs – drills, blinds and marks.

The property is approximately 20 acres and is securely fenced. The technical pond sits in 5 acres of groomed field surrounded by berms. The large field abutting the pond field is approximately 7 acres surrounded by berms and mounds. Ideal for drills and land marking set ups. A large safe ditch divides the pond and main fields providing excellent training opportunities. Portions of the property are not mowed, providing cover for upland training.
Convenient Location
Enjoy exclusive access to the entire property with each booking. We’re just 12 minutes from Courtenay, off Old Island Highway.
Access to the property is through two gates. One off Howard Road, one off Nurmi Road. All parking is on the property. Gate used will be dependent on the wind direction and time of year. Maximum 8 vehicles per booking.

Open Saturdays & Mondays (9am – noon, 1pm – 4pm).
Making and Confirming a Reservation
Advance reservations only – no drop-ins. A reservation books the entire property. Fees are $25/hr. Training fees must be paid in advance by e-transfer to headsupkennels@gmail.com to confirm your reservation.
Group Booking Payment Policy
To keep things simple, we ask that one person collects the total from your group and sends one e-transfer for your pond booking.
Refunds
No refunds for no shows or cancellations made less than 24 hrs before the booked time. Property users must sign a waiver on their first visit.
For insurance purposes, property users must be members of the UIRC or VIRC.
Training Pond Rules
- No dogs off leash other than when actively training.
- Please scoop the poop and take the bags with you – there are no disposal facilities on the property.
- Do not dispose of dead ducks on the property.
- There are no toilet facilities available.
- Close all gates behind you.
